These informal meetings take place bi-annually and are hosted by the country holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The meeting will take place at Lužnica Castle, located 20 km west of Zagreb. It will be hosted by Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman and chaired by High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the Commission Josep Borrell. Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi and Chairman of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET) David McAllister will also participate.
The meeting will be an opportunity for EU Foreign Ministers to discuss in an informal manner current developments and topical issues on the European and international agenda.
EU foreign affairs ministers will exchange views on recent developments in Syria, focusing specifically on the ongoing renewed fighting in and around Idlib. The Council will discuss how to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis and de-escalate tensions in the region, with a view to paving the way for a political solution. Ministers may also touch on the related external aspects of migration.
