Because of the risk associated with COVID-19 infection and to ensure the health care of EU citizens, the organizer decided to cancel the High Level Conference on Organ Donation and Transplantation!

Organ donation and transplantation is one of the priorities of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the field of health. At a high level conference, Croatia calls for a new, synergistic approach at European Union level to address existing inequalities in the availability of transplant treatment methods, identify areas of good EU practice and strengthen mechanisms for faster and more efficient knowledge transfer, exchange of good practice between Member States, joint action and broader interstate cooperation, in order to successfully address the challenges in this area of ​​public health.

Due to its unique organizational model and high ethical and professional standards, Croatia is one of the leading countries in the world in the field of organ donation and transplantation.

Today's results are the crowning of years of effort and systematic investment based on the unambiguous commitment of the profession and health policy on the transplant program as a national, public health interest of the Republic of Croatia. Given the importance of a very complex area of ​​organ donation and transplantation and the exceptional success of the Croatian model of transplantation system, Croatia wants to take strong leadership over the common political commitment of EU countries, which face numerous challenges in the field of organ donation and transplantation and new opportunities in improving care and health patients.

The Ministerial Conference on Organ Donation and Transplantation will involve EU health ministers and national policymakers to: - provided political support and ensured a strong commitment to further develop and strengthen the implementation of successful organ donation and transplant programs and to introduce such model programs where they do not exist, based on WHO Madrid Resolution recommendations, the Istanbul Declaration, EU quality and safety standards, and EU Action Plan on organ donation and transplantation - exchanged experiences and discussed different approaches to increase the availability of organs for transplantation and the availability of organ transplant treatment - identify new challenges and priorities for joint action in this area of ​​public health and select recommended directions and models for further development.
