Fostering European Cooperation for Cultural Heritage at Risk

Conference Strengthening European Cooperation for the Protection of Cultural Heritage from Risk As part of the EU Council Presidency from 26 to 28 February 2020, an international expert conference entitled Strengthening European Cooperation for the Protection of Cultural Heritage from Risk will be held in Lazareti in Dubrovnik.

One of the priorities of Croatia's EU Council Presidency in the field of culture is the preservation of cultural heritage, and in particular the management of risks in cultural heritage. Integrating risk management in the field of cultural heritage is essential in the day-to-day functioning of institutions and society, despite the diminished human capacity and high commitment and commitment of professionals. The European Union has also, in cooperation with a number of prominent governmental and non-governmental organizations, highlighted the area of cultural heritage as one of its priorities in the last decade.

The conference is organized by the Ministry of Culture with the support of the European Commission, the City of Dubrovnik, the Dubrovnik-Neretva County and the Dubrovnik Tourist Board.

There is no need for collaborative decision-making in the management of cultural heritage risks, which forms the basis of good cultural heritage management and also has a direct impact on the qualitative principles of cultural heritage interventions, as well as on the reduction of negative effects. That is why panel topics will focus on discussing methods of identification, analysis and better understanding of risk, the importance of monitoring, the adaptation process, as well as rapid recovery from threats and sustainable conservation after restoration. Raising awareness of the importance of cultural heritage for present and future generations will also be emphasized, as well as cooperation among existing professional networks and stakeholders.

The conference Strengthening European Cooperation for the Protection of Cultural Heritage from Risk is structured in the form of moderated thematic panels, and an accompanying cultural program is organized for the participants.
